Casey's goal lifts Union to 1-0 win

KANSAS CITY, Kansas (AP) — The Philadelphia Union boosted their playoff chances with a 1-0 win over Sporting Kansas City in Major League Soccer on Friday, the club's first victory in over a month.

The Union climbed into the fifth and final playoff position in the Eastern Conference with four matches left to play in the regular season.

Conor Casey scored in the 36th minute for Philadelphia. It was the club's first goal in 346 minutes, dating back to a 5-1 loss to New England on Aug. 25.

Philadelphia's last victory came on Aug. 10 when it beat D.C. United 2-0.

Sporting had a three-match winning streak broken and missed a chance to take a share of the Eastern Conference lead with New York.
