Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions has decided to summon the Judicial Services Commission's sub committee looking to into the leaked sex video of allegedly implicating Supreme Court Judge Ali Hameed Mohamed, to inquire about the delay in the sub committee's investigation.
Chair of the Independent Institutions Committee Dhiddhoo MP Mohamed Sameer said today that the JSC sub committee has been summoned for a committee hearing at 8:30 p.m. tonight (Thursday). He said that, based on what the sub committee reveals, all members of the JSC may also be summoned for questioning.
Two members of the JSC sub committee investigating the Judge Ali Hameed sex video scandal, member appointed by the President Latheefa Gasim, and Vice President of JSC, Abdullah Didi, resigned from the committee in July. JSC did not provide details to the reasons of the members' resignation from the Committee.
The remaining members of the sub committee are Commission member Ahmed Rasheed and two independent lawyers – Hussain Siraj and Mohamed Anil.
JSC is also investigating a video which shows the judge discussing politics with a local businessman, and a video showing the judge meeting with former Controller of Immigration Ilyas Hussain Ibrahim in a restaurant.
Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions, which holds a Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) majority, has also summoned members of the Elections Commission (EC) and their security personnel, to hear allegations that the security personnel, provided by the State, has neglected in ensuring the security for the EC members. The hearing is scheduled for afternoon, today.
