Thimarafushi MP Shareef returns to PPM

Thimarafushi MP, Ahmed Shareef, has joined the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) again.

Shareef was elected as MP for Thimarafushi on PPM ticket, but later defected to President Dr Mohamed Waheed’s Gaumee Itthihad Party (GIP).

Shareef signed the membership form to rejoin PPM at a rally held by the PPM-MDA coalition tonight.

Vice President of PPM Abdul Raheem Abdulla said that Shareef joining the party again marks ‘the beginning of something big’.

Membership forms of 20 people of Gaafu Alifu Atoll, who joined PPM from Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), were presented to presidential candidate of PPM Abdulla Yameen at tonight’s rally.

The forms were presented to Yameen by Jameel Usman, who is presently campaigning for the Gemanafushi seat at the parliament.

At tonight’s rally, Adhaalath Party’s Fares-Maathoda MP Ibrahim Muththalib said that he would support Yameen in the second round of the presidential election.
