Supreme Court orders to postpone second round of election

The Supreme Court has ordered to postpone the second round of the presidential election, scheduled for Saturday, 28 September, until the court rules on the case filed by Jumhooree Party (JP) requesting to annul the results of the first round of the election.

In the order issued tonight, the court said that the order is based on the claims made in the case filed by JP, the Constitution, and the constitutional and judicial procedures to be followed in relation to such cases.

This order follows a request by JP, for an order to postpone the second round of the election scheduled for Saturday until the court makes a decision on the case filed by the party.

The Supreme Court said that the order came after due discussion and a vote between the judges of the court.

Tonight’s order was signed by Judge Abdulla Saeed, Judge Adam Mohamed Abdulla, Judge Ali Hameed Mohamed and Judge Dr Ahmed Abdulla Didi, while the letterhead was signed by Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz Hussain.
