Man convicted of importing cannabis receives life sentence

Criminal Court has sentenced a man to life in prison after being convicted of trafficking cannabis in to the Maldives.

Adnan Moosa, (57 years) of Haa Alif Dhiddhoo, Alimas Villa was sentenced by the Criminal Court on Thursday.

The sentence states that Adnan Moosa was arrested on the 2nd of May 2012 and that upon inspection, the police had discovered a rubber packet containing 484.5 grams of cannabis in his possession, and that further inspection of his home had revealed five plastic containers comprising of a total of 124.6789 grams of cannabis. The sentence also states that the police discovered 12 plastic containers containing a total of 296.0036 grams of cannabis from his sleeping quarters on the boat where Adnan was employed.

Criminal Court sentence stated that the charge against Adan Moosa was proven through his own confession, witness testimonies and evidence, and that Adnan Moosa has been sentenced to trafficking cannabis under Article 137 (e) and Article 106 (a) of the Drugs Act.
