MDP denies any involvement in Dr Afrasheem

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has asserted that the party was not involved to any extent, in the ruthless murder of former Ungoofaaru MP Dr Afrasheem Ali in October 2012.

MDP said in a statement published today, that Sheikh Adam Shameem implied during a recent lecture organised by Jamiyyathu Salaf, that MDP was involved in in this crime.

MDP expressed grave concern over this act by Jamiyyathu Salaf, a civil society organisation, and called on all groups to refrain from using religion to mislead the public, in the current political rivalry that exists in the society.

Two people have been arrested in relation to Dr Afrasheem Ali’s murder. The suspects are Hussain Humaam of H. Lobby and Ali Shaan of H. Hicoast.
