DRP council member, Minister of State for Health dismissed

Dhivehi Riyyithunge Party (DRP) council member Ali Shareef has been dismissed from the post of Minister of State for Health, today.

Nolhivaram MP and DRP council member Mohamed Nasheed told the press today that Ali Shareef received a warning earlier that, if he participated in the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) campaign activities, he will be dismissed from his post.

MP Nasheed said that dismissals due to an individual's political activities is against the spirit of democracy.

The MP called on President Waheed to not overstep his boundary during the few days left in his presidency.

President Waheed recently dismissed Minister of Education Dr Asim Ahmed, also a member of DRP, from the post Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs. Dr Asim’s dismissal came on the same day DRP announced that they will be supporting the main opposition, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in the presidential runoff.

President’s Office is yet to comment of the Deputy Minister Ali Shareef’s dismissal.
