Detention periods extended by ten days for two people suspected of having printed ballot papers

The Criminal Court has extended the detention periods of two people who are suspected of having printed ballot papers in relation to the first round of the presidential election, held on Saturday, 7 September.

The two suspects, who were arrested in Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi, were first given detention periods of three days by the Kulhudhuffushi Magistrate Court.

The two suspects acted as monitors on the day of voting.

Meanwhile, numerous allegations have been made of vote-rigging and buying and selling of identity cards, in relation to Saturday’s election.

Jumhooree Party (JP) has also filed a case to the Supreme Court today, requesting the court to annul the results of the first round of the presidential election.
