PPM campaign hall set on fire

A campaign hall of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) in Hithadhoo, Addu City, has suffered serious damage after it was set on fire last night.

Commander in Chief, South Province Division, Inspector of Police Ahmed Shifan said today that no one was hurt in the incident, which took place at around 3:30 a.m.

He said that a projector, a speaker system and other items in the campaign hall were damaged in the fire.

The fire at the campaign hall located at a house on Hithadhoo Bodu Magu, was put out by the police stationed in the island.

“So far, we believe that this was an arson attack. We have found evidence to support this theory. The campaign hall caught fire so easily because there were kerosene and other flammable material inside,” said Shifan.

This case is now under police investigation, but no arrests have been made yet.
