PPM to intervene in JP

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has decided to intervene in Jumhoory Party’s case filed in High Court, contesting the results of the first round of the presidential polls.

Speaking at a press conference in Nasandhura Palace Hotel today, PPM Deputy Leader and Tourism Minister Ahmed Adheeb announced that PPM will intervene in the court case and said that they will fully back JP in the matter.

“PPM has decided to intervene in JP’s case in High Court, in which they said that the presidential election polls were rigged and that there are major issues regarding the election. We will fully support JP regarding the matter,” Adheeb said.

He said that PPM had filed, with the Elections Commission, a number of irregularities with the Commission before the September 7th polls, although none of their grievances were addressed.

Adheeb said that PPM also believes that there were major attempts to rig the polls during polling itself, and also during the vote counting process. But he does not want to go into the matter, as they do not have credible evidence at this time, Adheeb said.

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), who received the most number of votes with 45 percent in the Saturday polls, has also announced that they will intervene in JP’s election case.

High Court has scheduled the first hearing for the case for Sunday, 15th of September.
