A warehouse in the island of Alifu Dhaalu Hangnaameedhoo has burned down in a fire incident.
Vice President of Hangnaameedhoo Council, Ali Mahir said that the incident took place last night in a warehouse located in a house called Vidhuvaru.
No one was hurt in the incident.
Mahir said that the fire was first seen at around 2:45 a.m., and that it was extinguished by the people of the island at around 4:00 a.m.
He said that the warehouse was located next to the house, but the house did not suffer much damage except for part of the roof catching fire to some extent.
“There was only one person in the house at that time. He was unharmed. The warehouse is used to store diesel and fishing equipment,” he said.
He said that the police have not yet arrived in the island to investigate the matter so the cause of the fire remains undetermined; however, since the warehouse does not have electricity, it is likely that this was an arson attack.
