The Maldives Media Council (MMC) and the Maldives Journalist Association have condemned a recent attack on a VTV reporter.
In a statement issued yesterday, MMC condemned the attack on VTV reporter Ismail Shah, who was threatened and attacked following unrest at the scene, while he was reporting from a function held by Jumhooree Coalition to open a campaign hall in Male’.
MMC called on the public and political groups to cooperate with reporters when they are carrying out their duties as reporters.
In a statement, MJA also expressed concern over reporters being obstructed while carrying out their duties, and condemned in the strongest possible terms the recent incident where reporters of V Media were obstructed and attacked while reporting from a scene of unrest in Male’.
MJA called on relevant authorities to take action on all groups involved in obstructing and attacking reporters, and stressed the importance of taking action without hesitation to bring such perpetrators to justice.
