Ferry traveling from Hulhumale

A ferry traveling from Hulhumale’ to Male’ has run aground on a reef after its engine stopped working.

A person who travelled on the ferry told Sun that the incident took place at 7:55 pm when the ferry’s engine failed, and that they received help from another ferry that was passing by. He said that the wind picked up, and the ferry ended up on the reef near the Funadhoo oil jetty.

The police said that no woman or child was hurt in the incident, but one person was taken to ADK Hospital.

The 99 passengers were taken to Male’ on another ferry.

Marine Police and Coastguard provided assistance at the scene of the incident.

The police said that the ferry had a broken window and that some of the motorcycles on-board were also damaged.

The ferry has been tugged to Hulhule’ harbour by MTCC.
