The Elections Commission has said that its server is under constant attack by sources in the Maldives as well as abroad, and that its IT Department is on the alert for these attacks.
President of Elections Commission Fuad Thaufeeg however denied rumours that the commission’s website and the voters’ registry database had been hacked.
Fuad said that the commission’s website is being attacked by sources in the US, Australia, Russia and the Maldives.
“Our server is being attacked constantly and the attacks are coming from all over the world. Our IT Department is on the alert for this and are monitoring the situation 24 hours. They are blocking all such attacks,” said Fuad.
Fuad said that the work related to the voters’ registry will be fully completed this evening, and assured that the data is safe and secure.
Fuad said that attempts have been made in the past as well, to attack the commission’s data during elections, but the attacks have not been successful as the commission kept the data safe.
