Go Media has decided to hold a ‘weekend market’ in Male’.

Go Media said in a statement issued today that the market will commence in October, and will be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Stalls are being leased now, for the market which will consist of 40 stalls.

Go Media said that the purpose of the weekend market is to encourage shopping, and to facilitate fast turnover of goods for small and large businesses.

All businesses are welcome to participate in the weekend market, and priority will be given to companies that are officially registered, said Go Media.

Go Media further said that weekend markets or Sunday markets are held in other countries, and are popular among the public.

In this regard, Go Media said that weekend markets are popular in developed countries such as Singapore, USA and Japan, and since the retail market is progressing fast in the Maldives, the weekend market is likely to receive great support.

Male’ City Council Member Ibrahim Sujau said that Go Media has been commissioned to hold the weekend market for two years, and that the market will be set up in the compound of Male’ City Council building.

Go Media has also been commissioned to hold the annual ‘night market’ for three years. They organised the first night market before Ramadan this year.
