Mentally ill person causes damage to Inguraidhoo Council Office

A mentally ill person has caused serious damage to the Council Office in Raa Inguraidhoo.

Vice President of Inguraidhoo Council Mohamed Sameer said today that the incident, which took place at around 6:00 pm yesterday, left the windows and some computers in the office broken.

“He has a mental illness. He spent about one hour causing damage to the council office. He broke two windows to enter the office, and damaged two systems and a printer,” said Sameer.

Sameer said that he is a tall, well-built person, making it difficult to control him.

“He is about 6 feet tall, and strong. It would take about 6 people to control him. As for family members he has only his father,” he said.

Sameer said that the incident was reported to Ungoofaaru Police Station, but they only received assistance from the police about two hours later, by which time the person had stopped causing damage to the council office and left the scene.

He said that a police officer was injured during the attempt to take him away, and that he is now under the supervision of the officers at the Ungoofaaru Police Station.

The police said that an incident had been reported regarding a person causing damage to Inguraidhoo Council Office, following which a 31-year-old man has been taken under police supervision.
