Presidential candidate of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Abdullah Yameen has said that during a PPM government, every family will have a doctor who takes care of the family’s medical history.
Speaking in Haa Alifu Dhidhdhoo this evening, Yameen said that PPM would register several clinics which will have a general practitioner for every family.
“Every family will have a GP [general practitioner]. The purpose of this is to ensure that one doctor understands hereditary diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, that run in the family, and understands the medical history of the family; instead of having to visit different doctors every time,” he said.
Yameen said that midwives will be trained and their services will be re-introduced, to solve the problems faced by women during childbirth.
“We are familiar with the services of midwives, but the three-year government of former President Mohamed Nasheed has abolished the work of midwives. We will re-introduce midwife services, and ensure that these services are provided to mothers,” he said.
He said that PPM would also establish a modern ‘diagnosis centre’, for analysing diseases that spread in the Maldives.
He said that it is not only up to local businessmen to strengthen the economy, and that the law on foreign investment will be amended during the PPM government to increase foreign investors’ confidence in the Maldives and encourage them to invest in the Maldives.
He said that PPM would also hold discussions with developing countries to solve the problem of double taxation for foreign investors.
Speeches were also given by President of PPM, former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Yameen’s running mate Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed and Vaikaradhoo MP Ali Arif at the rally held by PPM in Dhidhdhoo this evening.
