Sri Lanka wins toss, elects to bat against India

BRISBANE, Australia (AP) — Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene won the toss and elected to bat first Tuesday in the tri-series limited-overs international against India.

Virender Sehwag returned from injury and will lead India in the absence of skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who was suspended for one match due to India's slow over-rate in Sunday's 110-run defeat to Australia.

There were three changes to India's lineup, with allrounder Rohit Sharma omitted to allow Parthiv Patel to come in as wicketkeeper for Dhoni, and paceman Zaheer Khan losing his spot to spinner Ravi Ashwin.

Sehwag missed the tie in Adelaide against Sri Lanka and the heavy loss to Australia here last Sunday due to a back complaint, but said he's completely fit.

Sachin Tendulkar is still bidding for a 100th international century. He hasn't scored a hundred in international cricket since last March and has struggled for consistency on India's tour to Australia.

Sri Lanka takes an unchanged lineup into the match and has surged back into the contention after the dramatic tie against India and an eight-wicket win over Australia in Sydney.

The toss was held in gloomy, overcast conditions on a humid day in Brisbane. The forecast was for possibly severe thunderstorms later in the day.
