Police establish memorial fund for families of officers killed on duty

Police have established “Police Memorial Fund” to provide financial aid for the families of police officers who pass away while on active duty.

Police said today that the account (Bank of Maldives account number 77011666294001) will be managed by the Police Family Association and that the fund will act as a source of financing for their memorial day activities, in addition to providing aid for families of officers who pass away on active duty.

The fund is open to the public, Police said.

Announcing that the Police Memorial Day will be marked on the 23rd of July annually, an order released by the police stated that a special committee will be assembled and tasked with disbursing money from the fund.

The order also detailed the persons that will be considered as their family for the purposes of disbursing the funds as; officer’s father, mother, spouse, children and children determined by a judicial court.
