The appointment of Dr Amal Ali as Minister of Gender, Family and Human Rights has been sent to the parliament for approval.
The issue was forwarded to the Parliament Committee on Government Oversight at today’s parliament sitting.
The committee has also decided to approve the appointment of Aishath Azima Shakoor as Attorney General. Azima Shakoor’s appointment as Minister of Gender, Family and Human Rights was earlier rejected by the parliament.
Furthermore, the issue of granting approval for Aminath Rukhshana Ibrahim as Member of the Police Integrity Commission has been forwarded to the Committee on Independent Institutions.
Mohamed Rishawan, who held the post of Deputy Commissioner in the former government, was earlier nominated for the post of Member of Police Integrity Commission, and his name was sent to the parliament for approval. Rukhshana Ibrahim was nominated after Mohamed Rishawan’s name was withdrawn and candidates were invited to apply for a second round for the post of Member of the Police Integrity Commission.
The post of Member of the Police Integrity Commission became vacant following the resignation of its former President Shahindha Ismail. The commission currently has four members.
