A fire in a store in the staff area of Robinson Resort in Gaafu Alifu atoll has left five people injured.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said that the incident took place at around 10:00 today, and that the five people who were injured were staff members who were in the area when something in the store exploded.
The victims are being treated at Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo Hospital, said MNDF.
An official of the hospital said that following this incident, three Maldivians and two foreigners arrived at the hospital at around 11:30, and four of them had been admitted at the hospital.
“They have suffered burns in different parts of their bodies due to the explosion. None of them are in serious condition,” he said.
MNDF said that the fire was extinguished by firemen of MNDF Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo Fire Station who went to the resort, and that the incident was probably caused by an electrical malfunction.
