A workshop is being held in Malé with the concerning parties to make a strategic action plan for the election commission for the next five years.
This is the first time that the election commission is making such a strategic action plan. This action plan is targeted for the period between year 2011 and 2015.
Election commission says in the commencement of the workshop held in Nasandura Palace Hotel, that the plan to establish the vision of election commission will ensure the realization of the responsibilities of the election commission required by the law.
The president of the election commission Mr. Fuad Thaufeeq says that some laws may need amendments after the discussion. And may have to work on certain legal formalities.
Pre-voting and voting through electronic voting system is not possible through the current laws. Election Commission is interested to propose these amendments for consideration in this workshop. The president of the Election Commission says that it will be easier to identify how much the people are ready for such a change in this workshop.
“We don’t want to implement things which we believe in, without knowing the public opinion. So we want to know the opinion of all who is involved.” said Fuad.
Fuad said that an electronic voting system will be much cheaper and the MPs are also ready to amend the laws to make the process cheaper.
“Some countries allow pre-voting. But the votes will be counted on the same date.” Fuad said.
