The police have informed President Dr Mohamed Waheed, Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz Hussain, Prosecutor General Ahmed Muizzu and the Judicial Service Commission that a case regarding a sex video involving Supreme Court Judge Ali Hameed Mohamed is currently under investigation.
The police said this in a short statement tonight, and did not provide any details.
There have been reports that the police had made attempts to arrest Ali Hameed. This has however been denied by the police.
Article 12 of the Judges Act states that except in cases where he is seen committing a crime, a judge can only be arrested on suspicion of a criminal activity only after a higher court authorises his arrest by order. A Supreme Court judge can only be arrested if all the remaining Supreme Court judges unanimously agree to his arrest by order.
Such an order can only be granted by the court when the Prosecutor General files a request for it following consideration of a request from the legal authority investigating the matter.
