Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) Leader Ahmed Thasmeen Ali has paid to the court today, the MVR 1.9 million he owed to the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ahmed Nazim.
The MVR 1.9 million is part of a debt owed by Thasmeen to Nazim from a total of MVR 2.55 million. Nazim had also filed a case in Civil Court seeking the due amount.
An official from the Civil Court told Sun that following Thasmeen’s payment today, the Court will not to pursue additional steps against him with regard to defaulting on his payment. Thasmeen’s frozen bank accounts and his withheld passport have been undone and returned, the official said.
An official from DRP said that details of the matter will be revealed through a press statement to be released later today.
While President Waheed’s running mate Ahmed Thasmeen Ali has paid his debt to the court today, former Thimarafushi MP Mohamed Musthafa has filed a constitutional case in Supreme Court asking them to declare that Ahmed Thamseen can no longer retain his seat in parliament, arguing that he had received a pending debt conviction from Civil Court.
