Maldives Broadcasting Commission has arranged for Maldivian broadcasters to gain technical training from Doordarshan, the larges public service broadcaster in India.
A delegation from the Maldives Broadcasting Commission, currently visiting India on invitation of the Indian government, has met with the heads of Doordarshan, including their Director General, Tripurari Sharan. It is understood that the Director General assured the Maldivian delegation of their support and to maintain a close relationship with the Maldives Broadcasting Commission.
Tripurari Sharan has expressed that Doordarshan is willing to facilitate for Maldivian broadcasters to actively participate in the functioning of Doordarshan in a manner agreed by both the Maldivian Broadcasting Commission and the broadcaster, a means to grant Maldivian professionals to gain experience from their facilities.
The President of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission Mohamed Shihab thanked the heads of Doordarshan, Prasar Bharati and the Indian government for extending the opportunity.
The delegation from Maldives is also scheduled to meet with officials from the Indian Ministry of Information and the Indian broadcast regulatory group.
The delegation will also visit major Indian broadcasting and rebroadcasting stations in New Delhi, namely NDTV, AirTel, Zee Channel, and Sony Channel, in addition to the Indian Broadcasting foundation and other community broadcasters in the country.
Maldives Broadcasting Commission said that they delegation will also meet with Indian Institute of Mass Communication and the AJK Mass Communication Research Centre to clarify details of further training opportunities for Maldivian broadcasters.
