A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Ministry of Environment and Energy and Fenaka Corporation Limited regarding solving the problem of water shortage faced by some islands during the dry season every year.
The ministry said that R.O. plants established in 10 islands will be repaired under this project.
The ministry said that the plan is to establish a water system whereby the plants will be established in some regional islands, and water will be supplied to all islands through those islands.
Minister of State for Environment Abdul Matheen Mohamed said that efforts are also ongoing to identify immediate solutions to the problem of water shortage.
He said that under the agreement signed today, Fenaka Corporation will work in cooperation with the government, and while Fenaka Corporation would contribute funds to cover part of the cost, the government would spend MVR 1 million on this project.
Under the MoU signed today, R.O. plants will be repaired in Haa Alifu Ihavandhoo, Shaviyani Funadhoo, Noonu Velidhoo, Noonu Maalhendhoo, Raa Alifushi, Baa Hithaadhoo, Laamu Isdhoo, Gaafu Alifu Villingili and Gaafu Dhaalu Gadhdhoo.
Minister of State for Environment and Energy Abdul Matheen Mohamed signed this agreement on behalf of the ministry, and Managing Director of Fenaka, Mohamed Nimal signed the MoU on behalf of FENAKA Corporation Limited.
Speaking to reporters after signing the agreement, Nimal said that it should be possible to complete the work within 15 days.
