Vice President fined MVR 2000 for damaged passport

Department of Immigration and Emigration has fined Vice President Mohamed Waheed Deen with MVR 2000 for failing to properly maintain his passport.

A senior official from the Immigration Department told Sun today that the Vice President was asked to pay the fine when they discovered that his passport was damaged, after it was submitted to the department. The official said that the incident occurred two months ago.

“We treat the Vice President equally and so, he was fined,” the official said.

Although the Immigration Department has attested to imposing the fine upon the Vice President, the department denied that it had happened when Sun had asked of the matter one week ago.
