Chinese hospital ship performs 5 surgeries, treats 436 patients within first day in Maldives

Chinese hospital ship “Peace Ark”, which is currently in the Maldives, has treated 436 local patients during the first day of its visit.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) told Sun today that doctors from the hospital boat have travelled to islands closer to Male’ to see patients and have also provided visited Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital and the MNDF military hospital Senahiya to provide consultation services.

The hospital ship of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy arrived in Maldives last Saturday under a goodwill visit themed Mission Harmony 2013.

Doctors from the ship treated 256 locals in the capital Male’, 68 patients from Kaafu Guraidhoo and another 112 people in Haa Dhaalu Kulhuduffushi within the first day of its visit.

According to MNDF, 5 surgeries were also conducted on the hospital ship yesterday.

The Chinese Navy hospital ship “Peace Ark” will be providing medical services to various islands across Maldives till 5th of July. The island include Alif Alif Rasdhoo, Alif Dhaalu Mahibadhoo, Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi, Gnaviyani Fuvahmulah, Baa Eydhafushi, Gaafu Alif Viligili. A team of doctors from the ship will also visit Addu City.

The first destination for Peace Ark under Mission Harmony 2013 was the Nation of Brunei. The Chinese Embassy states that the hospital ship is scheduled to more South Asian countries during their tour, including Pakistan, Bangladesh and India.
