Japanese Minister of Internal Affairs pays courtesy call on President

Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan, Mr Yoshita Shindo has paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed.

The meeting was held this morning at the President’s Office.

At the meeting, President Waheed and Minister Shindo discussed the current political, economic and social situation of the country.

President Waheed expressed his gratitude for the support and developmental assistance Maldives has continued to receive from the government of Japan. He especially highlighted the assistance received from Japan towards the development of the education, telecommunication and broadcasting sectors of the country.

He also highlighted the importance given by the government to promoting renewable energy and sustainable development.

President Waheed further assured that the government would ensure complete transparency in the presidential election to be held in 2013.

Minister Shindo assured of Japan’s continuous support and cooperation to the Maldives. He assured that the Japanese government would provide assistance in making the presidential election a free and fair one.

Following the meeting, President Dr Mohamed Waheed hosted a lunch in honour of Minister Shindo, which was held at Muleeaage.
