Numerous plans have been made for MPL

CEO of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) Mohamed Latheef has said that several plans are in place to ensure progress for the company’s future.

Latheef said yesterday that plans have been made to resume the bulk cargo trade that the company lost the past 12 years, and to establish an MPL boatyard in Thilafushi.

“Plans made for the company’s future include shifting the congested Male’ Commercial Harbour to another location, establishing a 300-metre terminal as per a plan submitted by ADB, and facilitate the services of a modern harbour,” he said.

He further said that plans have been made to develop the inner pier of Male’ Commercial Harbour to provide services to large passenger liners, and establish and operate the yacht marina in Hulhumale’.

He said that efforts will also be made to develop Hithadhoo Port Terminal, to solve the problems being faced by Kulhudhuffushi Harbour, and to use renewable energy.
