The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has appointed Hassan Shifaau, M. Alihanduvaruge, as the new Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Before this change, former Permanent Secretary at the Foreign Ministry Mohamed Naseer, M. Funfini, was repositioned as Foreign Secretary of the ministry by former President Nasheed during the last month, and the position of Permanent Secretary has been vacant until today.
Shifaau has been serving at the Foreign Ministry as the Deputy Director General. He has a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Sikkim Manipal University in India.
Shifaau started his civil service career at the Ministry of Planning and Environment, and according to the Civil Service Commission, he has rendered considerable service at the Foreign Ministry. He has also worked at the Regional Centre of the Commonwealth Youth Program.
Permanent Secretary at any government department is the head of the civil servants who work at that particular department, and he/she is responsible for implementing relevant laws and regulations on the civil servants under his supervision.
