A group of young people penetrated a Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) campaign rally last night and staged a protest against them.
Soon after the rally began around 9:45 pm last night, about 15 young people holding placards with anti-MDP phrases went into the MDP crowd gathered Henveyru Park. Their placards accused MDP of mass corruption during their government.
There were no reports of violence following the incident, which was also participated by the former MDP Chairperson and Machangolhi-South MP Mariya Ahmed Didi. She also spoke at the rally.
In a message to Sun regarding last night’s incident, Mariya Ahmed Didi described it was a deliberate act to obstruct their campaign because their opposition was certain that MDP will win the upcoming presidential election. She accused of the opposition of manipulating the young people and “taking advantage” of them.
To which party the people belong to is yet unclear. MDP also faced a provocation the previous night, when a some unknown persons had shattered the window of a party post that they inaugurated the night before, and had thrown eggs into the post.
