FORTALEZA, Brazil (AP) — Italy's players are still waiting to be told whether they will be allowed to venture outside the team hotel in Fortaleza following a security lockdown in the previous Brazilian city where the team played.
The team arrived Sunday at the northern venue for the Confederations Cup semifinal against Spain and immediately held a training session.
Fullback Christian Maggio says, "I'm not sure if they'll let us out here. We just arrived and we're not exactly sure what the program is yet. True, we didn't go out in Salvador for security reasons."
Italy coach Cesare Prandelli kept the squad confined to the hotel in Salvador on the advice of authorities following widespread anti-government demonstrations over the past week throughout Brazil.
Italy's semifinal is scheduled for Thursday, so the squad has five days in Fortaleza.
