President did not ask Fahmy to resume office: President

President’s Office has stated that the President had not asked Mohamed Fahmy Hassan, President of the Civil Service Commission was voted by the parliament to be removed from his seat at the commission, to resume office.

A press statement by the President’s Office (PO) today said that following the parliament's decision to remove Fahmy from office, the President, as per the Civil Service Act, had duly informed Fahmy of his dismissal.

However, the statement says that following the Supreme Court ruling that Parliament’s decision to remove him from office was void, the President had notified Fahmy that the letter informing him of his dismissal had been cancelled. Although, the PO statement said that the President had not asked him to resume office.

Former and current Attorney Generals have stated that Fahmy cannot be reinstated.

Fahmy filed a constitutional case against the parliament, following their decision to remove him in which, Supreme Court had ruled that the parliament’s decision was unconstitutional and therefore declared as void.

Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions has decided to summon the members of the Civil Service Commission and some senior government officials at 2:00 pm tomorrow, to look into why Fahmy continues to attend office.
