Porto beats Leiria 4-0 to stay in touch of Benfica

LISBON, Portugal (AP) — FC Porto recovered from its first league loss in two years with a 4-0 win over a 10-man Leiria on Sunday to stay within five points of Portuguese leader Benfica.

Porto left it late with all four goals coming in the second half after Leiria's Jose Alberto Shaffer was red carded in the 48th with Austria center forward Marc Janko scoring the 66th-minute opener.

Brazilian winger Hulk returned from a monthlong injury layoff to help set up James Rodriguez, who latched on to the rebound from Lucho Gonzalez's shot in the 74th to make it 2-0 before Alvaro Pereira added the third in the 85th.

Maicon capped the rout with his 89th-minute header as the defending champions prepared for Thursday's Europa League match against English leader Manchester City with a victory.

"The first goal unlocked the game and we eventually reached the fourth goal with ease," Porto coach Vitor Pereira said after his team's victory dropped Leiria into last place.

Benfica won 4-1 against Nacional on Saturday to extend its unbeaten season ahead of its Champions League last-16 match at Zenit St-Petersburg.

Also on Sunday, Pacos Ferreira beat Feirense 3-1, Rio Ave won 2-0 against Olhanense and Guimaraes was a 1-0 winner over Beira Mar.
