Iqbal Adam has resigned from the board of directors of the Maldives Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).
An official from MBC told Sun today that Iqbal Adam, in his resignation letter to the parliament, had stated that his reason for resignation is to “seek a new field to serve the country.”
Speaking to Sun today, Iqbal confirmed that he had written to the parliament and communicated his intention to resign. He said that throughout his time at MBC, his had focused his efforts to benefit the nation. He has resigned because he felt that there was another area that he can contribute more to the nation building effort, Iqbal said.
He said that the country, both in social and economic terms, is in a deep slump and that he feels that the only way to help the country come out of this ditch is to focus his efforts to politics.
Iqbal was appointed to MBC board with a 71 member majority from parliament.
The Maldives Broadcasting Corporation is answerable only to the parliament. The law, under which the corporation is instituted prohibits a member of the corporation’s board of directors to hold office in a political party.
