President Waheed meets with staff of IGMH

President Dr Mohamed Waheed has assured that continuous efforts will be made to ensure that the material necessary for the management of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), and for the provision of services at the hospital, are obtained as required.

The president said this while addressing the senior officials, doctors and nurses of IGMH during a visit to the hospital this afternoon.

He said that the main purpose of his visit to the hospital was to identify the problems faced by the hospital, and to facilitate solutions to those problems.

In this regard, he said that it might be difficult to procure expensive items at short notice, but it should be possible to obtain the materials required to provide essential services at the hospital.

The president said that it was not acceptable that a scan machine or another piece of equipment that can be repaired for MVR 5,000 or MVR 100,000 stays out of order, and assured that efforts will be made to rectify such issues.

He said that he would not remain without taking action after being informed that services are not being provided at IGMH or any regional hospital.

At the meeting, Vice President Mohamed Waheed Deen asked to form a committee including relevant officials of the hospital, to identify the areas that require attention to find immediate solutions to the problems faced by the hospital. He assured that action will be taken based on the problems identified by this committee.

The vice president said that the government’s aim is to establish systems to provide basic services to the people.

Health Minister Dr Ahmed Jamsheed also spoke at this meeting, about addressing the problems faced by the hospital.

Information was provided by senior officials, doctors and other staff of the hospital to the president and vice president, about the problems faced by the hospital and the action that can be taken to address those problems.
