Male’ City Council has passed a resolution, indicating that they do not accept the new government of President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik. The resolution also calls to hold an election within two months.

The resolution released on Saturday states that Dr Waheed’s government should hand over all authority to Speaker of Parliament Abdulla Shahid immediately. The new government should also commence preparations to hold an election in two months.

The resolution also strongly condemned the coup on 7 February against the democratically elected President, when he was forced to resign from his post.

It also says that “the people responsible for this crime will be summoned to Male’ City Council and questioned.”
