Three foreign nationals who jumped into the sea from a fishing boat between Feydhoo Finolhu and Thilafushi have been rescued and taken on-board a dinghy, and handed over to the police.
The police media official said that the incident took place at around 5:30am, and the three foreign nationals were saved by people on a dinghy out fishing in the area, who saw the three people drifting.
The police said that the three foreign nationals were from Myanmar, and that they jumped into the sea to go to Male’ to go back to their country, because they had not been paid their salaries for the past three months.
“We believe that it is a foreign vessel that exports fish from Maldives through Maldivian agents,” said the official.
Police are now investigating the case.
