A pot in which a piece of ambergris and silver ornaments found in the island of Nellaidhoo in HDh. Atoll. Nellaidhoo island council reports that the pot which was found while digging for construction work has a foot in its length.
“It was found two days back, but the person who saw it did not hand over that to us yet. We have sent a letter to that person asking to hand over the pot.” Said the president of Nellaidhoo Island council.
The pot was found by Mohamed Ziyad of Nellaidhoo Asaree Villa.
Council president said that there was a silver ring having a diamond, silver waist-chain, coins, other silver ornaments and a piece of ambergris in the pot as the council has understood.
Nellaidhoo council hope to get the pot any time today. The council also have informed Department of Heritage regarding the matter.
Mohamed Ziyad who found the pot said that when he found it there was a clay plate on it and inside the pot coins of copper and silver and some ornaments made with silver are there. He also said that the ring in the pot is having something like a diamond, but he says that he is not sure whether that is a diamond or not. He also said that some damages were made to the pot during the digging process.
Elders in the island having a population of 1100 say that the people lived previously in the place where the pot was found. And people say that in 1821 because of a storm lot of damages happened in the island.
