Case regarding corruption of MVR 24 million from Disaster Management Centre sent to PG

A corruption case regarding the misappropriation of MVR 24 million of the Disaster Management Centre has been sent to the Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office by the police.

The police said in a statement issued tonight that nine people are suspected of misappropriating more than MVR 24 million of State funds in 2009 and 2010 by using photocopies of invoices, when the money for those invoices had already been paid out in 2005 for the purchase of construction material for islands damaged in the tsunami.

The suspects involved in this case are Ahmed Najah, 34, of Beauty in Seenu Maradhoo; Ahmed Arif, 49, of Ma. Ever Glory; Mohamed Waheed, 53, of Dhigali in Baa Eydhafushi; Abdullah Saeed, 49, of Feyrumaage in Gaafu Dhaalu Hoadedhdhoo; Abdullah Hassan, 56, of H. Sosunmead, Abdullah Shahid, 50, of Zamaaneege in Seenu Hithadhoo; Mohamed Shahid, 53, of H. Rabee’ee Manzil; Moosa Ali Kaleyfaan, 49, of Husnuheenaage in Raa Kandholhudhoo; and Ahmed Sham’oon Zahir, 23, of Ma. Black Pool.
