A statement by Hussain Humaam Ahmed accusing Hulhu-Henveyru MP Reeko Moosa Manik of funding the murder religious scholar and parliamentarian, Dr. Afrasheem Ali, has been leaked to the public.
During the trial on 22nd of last month, the judge had asked Humaam to provide the details of the murder, after he confessed to the murder in court.
Humaan had replied that there was nothing more to be said, and that he had given a detailed account of the events related to the murder in his statement. The State attorney had then read Humaam’s statement to the court, after which, he agreed that the statement was valid and true.
The statement heard at the court on the 22nd of last month however does not accuse MP Reeko Moosa Manik of funding the murder.
A recent copy of the leaked statement reveals that Hulhu-Henveyru MP Reeko Moosa Manik’s son-in-law Abdullah Javid (Jaa) had promised Humaam that he will receive MVR 4 million for executing Dr. Afrasheem Ali. It continues to say that Abdulla Javid had told him that the murder was conceived and funded by MP Reeko Moosa Manik.
“Jaa sat there and said, ‘You do know the its been plan? You’ve heard about this from Azleef Rauoof, haven’t you? So do you know how this is going to turn out, how much you’re going to get? I promise you, you will get four million rufiyaa if do this,' Jaa said to me. Also, (he said) that this was planned by parliament member Reeko Moosa Manik. That I will receive the money-bundle from Reeko Moosa Manik and that Reeko Moosa Manik is the one who is investing, Jaa said,” the statement, stamped by a clear fingerprint mark of Hussain Humaam Ahmed read.
When contacted for comment, MP Reeko Moosa Manik said that he does not want to comment on it “anywhere.” He denied that the he had any connection to the matter.
“I do not want to say anything regarding the matter, anywhere. I do not get into traps like this, intentionally fabricated by people. So I don’t want to say anything regarding the matter. It has no connection to me whatsoever, so I do not want to comment,” Reeko Moosa Manik said.
Media Official at the Criminal Court Ahmed Mohamed Manik said that the Humaam gave the said statement to his detention evaluation hearing held on 7th of December last year. He said that the court had shared the statement with Humaam, his attorney, the police and the Prosecutor General’s Office.
