Not possible to proceed with MDP

The Civil Court has dismissed the case filed by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MPD) against former Home Minster Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed. MDP has accused Dr Jameel of, while holding the post of Home Minister, influencing the trial of the case filed by the State against former President Mohamed Nasheed.

The Civil Court said in its ruling today that MDP had accused Dr Jameel of, while holding the post of Home Minister, obstructing Nasheed’s right to a fair trial, influencing Nasheed’s trial, and making comments to achieve a political purpose.

The Civil Court said that it was clear from both MDP's and Dr Jameel’s lawyer’s statements that Dr Jameel no longer holds the post of Home Minister, and thus, there are no grounds to issue an order against a person who no longer holds this post to ask him not to repeat his actions.
