Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Deputy Parliamentary Group Leader Thoddoo MP Ali Waheed has said that his party will bring the military and police under their control within two months of winning the upcoming presidential elections.
Speaking at the party’s campaign post near Maldives Ports Authority (MPL) last night, Ali Waheed said that the police and military officers “that staged the coup” to bring down the MDP government will face their due retribution and that they will be brought to jutice. Ali Waheed also accused the police and military to be heavily influenced by politicians.
“Do not think that you can stay there for eternity. We will bring the police office and military headquarters under our control, within three months time. There is no need for the youngsters in the police and military worry. But we will dismiss everyone that took part in the coup and send them home. The senior people, we will dismiss them and send them away,” Ali Waheed said.
Criticizing the campaign promises by candidates from rival parties, Ali Waheed said that politicians will promise “laptops of yellow fin tuna fishing boats” at the time of campaign, but will not be able reached after the campaign. President Nasheed however meets the people and makes his pledges through policies that have been announced by MDP, Ali Waheed said.
“The person who goes to ADK (hospital) to seek treatment will know, when he does not have to pay, that Anni (former president Mohamed Nasheed) is there, inside his wallet,” Ali Waheed said.
Ali Waheed continued to say that their opposition have difficulty accepting MDP’s plans for the future such as their guest house policy, because it seeks to narrow nation’s income disparity.
