India has proposed to train judicial officers in the Maldives in an effort to strengthen the country’s judicial system.
The Indian Minister of External Affairs Salman Kurshid conveyed the proposal to the Maldives Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz Hussain during the Chief Justice’s current official visit to India.
External Minister Khurshid is reported to have told Faiz Hussain that India was privileged to work closely and partner the people of Maldives in their nation building efforts.
Reports indicate that Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz’s current visit to India is in answer to an invitation extended by his Indian counterpart, Chief Justice Altamas Kabir.
Indian External Ministry states that the judicial officers will be trained in formulation of rules and regulations.
Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz is reported to participate in a roundtable discussion with officials from the Indian judiciary and other Supreme Court judges.
