Some of the beer cans that spilt into the sea to the west side of Male’ last week are being discovered in two different areas near Vilimale’.
A Police Media Official stated that they received reports early morning yesterday that beer cans were being discovered near the beach and boat yard areas in Vilimale’. They have recovered 52 cans from the scenes and are certain that the cans are part of the shipment that went missing, Police said.
Following the incident, Maldives Customs Services released a statement which said that the large quantities of beer cans discovered in the ocean on the west side of Male’ was due to a recent incident where rough seas had caused a supply vessel to tilt and spill some of its contents into the sea. The shipment was en route to a bonded warehouse in Hulhule’, after undergoing due clearance from Male’ Commercial Harbour, said Customs.
Excluding recent discovery of 52 cans in Vilimale’, 14,000 of a total of 19,200 cans (800 cases) were recovered earlier, which leave an unaccounted total of 5,148 cans.
