Fishing boat runs aground reef near Bandidhoo

A fishing boat has run aground (kanneli dhoni)has run aground a reef on the east side of Dhaalu Bandidhoo.

The owner of ‘Kurimagu’ boat said that the boat had been anchored near Bandidhoo, when its anchor came loose at around 13:30 yesterday due to bad weather, causing the boat to run aground on ‘kanneiy faru’.

The boat belongs to Ihsan Gasim of Femoraage, Bandidhoo.

“The boat had been anchored outside the reef as it’s not possible to anchor within the reef during bad weather. The boat has run aground kanneiy faru,” said a person representing the owner of the boat.

He said that the incident was reported to Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) yesterday, but no assistance had been received yet.

He further said that the 68-food boat had suffered serious damage in the incident, and efforts were ongoing by the people of the island to remove the boat from the reef.
