Tonight's Night Market cancelled due to bad weather

Go Media Maldives, the organisers of the Night Market has said the market will not be held tonight due to bad weather.

This year's Night Market began last night on the eastern side of the capital Male’.

Scheduled to go on till the 15 of this month, the organizers decided to cancel the Night Market tonight following a warning from the Maldives Meteorological Centre (Met Office).

General Manager of Go Media Maldives Ibrahim Amir told Sun that they have now notified the owners of the stalls that the market has been cancelled, following the Met Office warning that the weather for tonight is going to harsh. He said that the market will continue form tomorrow onwards and that they will hold an additional night to compensate the loss of tonight’s cancellation.

“It is impossible near the area where we’ve set up the Night Market. The wind is very strong. Met Office has also asked us not to hold the Night Market tonight, so we’ve cancelled. They’ve told us that the weather will be better tomorrow, God willing. We will start again tomorrow night,” Amir said.

Several tents set up for the Night Market were destroyed due to bad weather last night. Met Office states that Central Maldives will suffer strong winds at an average of 30 to 40 mile per hour (mph), gusting to 55 mph from 1200 hrs to 1800 hrs today.
