Tents set up for Night Market destroyed due to strong wind

Some tents set up for the Night Market have been destroyed last night due to strong wind.

Male’ City Council Mayor Maizan Ali Manik told Sun Online today that several tents set up for the Night Market have been destroyed due to bad weather last night, ad that efforts to repair them are under way. He said the exact number of tents that were destroyed is not yet known.

“A large number of tents at the Night Market area have fallen due to the strong wind. Organisers of the event are working on setting the tents up again. They have assured that the tents will be repaired and the market will continue,” he said.

Ali Manik said that the market will be open tonight if the tents can be repaired, and if the weather allows.

The Night Market, conducted every year before Ramadan, was opened last night with 720 stalls.

The stalls are arranged from Tuscaloosa at Raalhugandu area up until the corner of former High Court on Ameenee Magu, and from the swimming track area up until the petrol shed on Boduthakurufaanu Magu.

The market will go on until 17 June, every day from 16:00 to 00:00.
