The Parliament Committee on Oversight of the Government has decided to summon Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim and Attorney General Aishath Bisham to tonight’s meeting regarding the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) proposed by the U.S.
Chairperson of the Oversight Committee Ali Waheed said that the ministers are being summoned in relation to remarks made by some senior officials regarding the government signing the agreement (SOFA).
Ali Waheed said that Foreign Minister Abdul Samad Abdullah was also summoned to the meeting tonight; however, he will not be able to attend as he is currently not in the country.
The committee has also urged groups who have information on SOFA to share that information with the parliament.
The committee has also decided to summon some members of the Male’ City Council and senior officials of the government tonight, regarding the waste management problem currently being faced in Male’.
